The Best Baby Registry Ever: Part 2, Toddler Feeding!

Welcome to Part 2 ofThe Best Baby Registry EVER, my totally biased (but mom-tested!) write-up of exactly what every new mom needs.

Yesterday, Part 1 covered Baby Feeding, so today, let's move on to everything you'll need to feed your toddler.

UTENSILSWhen we first started feeding Emmett cereal, I liked the , which are really long, so we didn't have to get right in his face to get food in his mouth. Right now, he prefers these to feed himself yogurt, because they reach the bottom of the container. As I've mentioned though, I don't' love plastic, so I usually give him an to feed himself. (I thought it was best to start him off with plastic, in case he bit down hard. Metal would hurt!) And I keep a in my purse for meals out; it comes in a hard plastic case with a magnet, which means the utensils stay clean—and I don't get stabbed with a stray for when I'm fishing around my bag.

BEABA BABY FOOD MAKEROnce Emmett graduated from cereal, I had SO MUCH fun making him a million different baby purees. Of course you could use a traditional steamer and then run everything through a food processor, but I liked that the was all in one. (Less mess!) I steamed pureed approximately 2,502 pounds of fruit and meat, and my Beaba is still in great shape. I think I mentioned some baby food cookbooks I used, but really, you don't need a recipe to make pureed apples. (If you'd like one though, was my favorite.) I froze leftover purees in , which I picked because they have lids.

SERVING & STORINGEmmett eats pretty much every meal on this MacKenzie-Childs enamelware plate. We got it as a gift, so I didn't realize until now how expensive these are, but I'd rather have one great plate than a bunch of junky plastic ones. Or, to make food easier to spoon, I'll put it in a small round . (He hasn't broken one yet—knock on wood!) When I was sending him out with frozen purees, I'd put one cube in , which have tight-fitting lids. But (in case I haven't mentioned it) I don't love plastic, so I wound up just buying , which worked perfectly well and hold more food. Cut fruits and veggies go in these little Sistema containers, which are crazy-durable and stay closed.

SEATINGAt home Emmett eats in an Anka High Chair, which is super-small (and super-cute) compared to the bulky plastic models the my friends in the 'burbs favor. I also like the looks of the , which also has a tray. (The tray was a must since Emmett is a messy eater!) When we travel with Emmett we pack the . (The colors are SO much cuter now!) I know there are several versions of these, but this is the one we used and loved. It was sturdier than the models some of our friends had—and the chair part is machine washable.

SIPPY CUPS is a great "starter" sippy cup because of the handles, but it wasn't so great for milk, which would creep up the straw and then drip out the top. If you use the sippy attachment instead, this cup is perfect. Our other favorite is the , which I've mentioned in the past, but this one's a little bulky for cup-holding beginners.

BIBSWe got 155 bibs when Emmett was born, but the only ones we ever use are the , which I recommend as burp clothes yesterday. The cover SO much more than a traditional bib (especially the extra-stupid ones that are, like, the size of postage stamp). When (not IF!) your baby spills food, it's probably not going to land on a piece of fabric that's two inches wide. The Burpy Bibs cover most of his torso—but manage not to get in the way when Emmett's feeding himself.

Speaking of Emmett and feeding, here he is feeding his best friend Maude.
