The Cost of Hiring a Babysitter for New Year's Eve is Higher Than Ever
As if celebrating the holidays isn't already expensive enough, new reports show that hiring a babysitter for just a few hours on New Year's Eve is both difficult to manage and more expensive than ever.
Just after Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve is the most requested night for sitters, according to data from Care.com, CNBC reports. If youareable to find someone to watch your kids on NYE, then you can expect to pay rates of around per hour, or more if you stay out past midnight. Translation: Most parents end up with a three-figure bill.
"It is so impossible to find a sitter on New Year's Eve," Kimberly Palmer, the author ofSmart Mom, Rich Momtold CNBC. "And if you are lucky enough to, it can be double the normal amount."
According to Care.com's data from the 2015 holiday, families paid around an hour for child care in the San Jose, California area, which is the most expensive city in the U.S. to hire a babysitter. Just behind San Jose, New York City parents paid sitters around .64 per hour, and folks in the Northwest (including the Portland, Oregon area) paid about .69 per hour. The list of cities with the most expensive child care rates for holiday parties also included San Francisco, Boston, Raleigh, Seattle, Chicago, Austin, and Minneapolis.
